Birding

April 8, 8 AM, meet at Angela’s Kitchen, 19900 N. Remington Drive, Surprise, AZ. 85374.

 

We will walk along the waterway and then across the central recreation area to the Palm Center area.  Depending upon the birds, we will be done about 10:30.  

 

Our last visit to this site produced 27 species.  The winter migrants have pretty much left for their northern breeding areas, but new birds will be migrating through.  The permanent residents are already nesting and producing young.  We spotted Great Blue Egrets on a huge pine last time, and recently they have been seen bringing nesting material to that tree!  The Rosy-faced Lovebirds are a bit quieter, and assumed to be nesting.  It’s a very busy time of the year.

 

As always, bring a hat, wear sunscreen.  There are benches, restrooms, and water fountains along the way.

ALSO check out:  www.maricopaaudubon.org. They have many walks and field trips scheduled for the months ahead. They also published the book,  “Birds of Phoenix and Maricopa County, Arizona”. The copywriter is 2017, but I am impressed that they have updates on their website. The book has birding areas broken into locations around Phoenix with very specific information on where to go and what you might be able to see.
